Introduction

The Middle East and North Africa, a region which has one of the highest concentrations of oil reserves in the world, the problem of pollution is dire. The intensive extraction of oil, but also heavy traffic, desertification, deforestation and conflicts all contribute to the deadly impact of pollution on the environment and on people’s health.
